Olivia Kramers appointed Director of Education and Deputy Director of the Police Academy

Written on

On 1 September 2025, Olivia Kramers will start her new job as Director of Education at the Netherlands Police Academy. She will also become its Deputy Director. Kramers will succeed Kathelijne van Kammen, who has held this position since 2016. She will stay on at the Police Academy in a different role.

Olivia Kramers is currently working as Director of HRM and Applied Psychology at Fontys University of Applied Sciences. She studied Applied Educational Studies and worked for the police in different capacities between 2003 and 2015. She started at Fontys in 2022.

The Netherlands Police Academy is the educational institution and knowledge institute for the police. Here we connect education, research and police practice. The lecturers and researchers do their job, so that police colleagues can also do their work well, competently and safely. The Police Academy’s Director (Leonard Kok) and its Director of Education together constitute an autonomous administrative authority: the Netherlands Police Academy. It reports directly to the Minister of Justice and Security.

‘Police Academy as educational coordination centre’

Olivia Kramers says she is really looking forward to joining the Police Academy. ‘This role combines many things for me: my passion for the police, my love of learning and development and my knowledge of and management experience in education and practice-oriented research. In times of limited resources and personnel capacity, the Police Academy faces the challenge of having to offer or source high-quality education and develop high quality knowledge. In recent years, it has proven itself to be a powerful and agile innovator of education and practice-oriented research.’

‘I see the Police Academy as a robust partner and educational coordination centre for the police. This enables them to ‘stand firm in these times’ and allows us to contribute to a safer world together. I look forward to taking up this role and collaborating with colleagues at the Police Academy, within the police force and at the ministry.’

‘Highly qualified’

Leonard Kok says he is really looking forward to working with Olivia Kramers. ‘There are three things about her that make her highly qualified to succeed Kathelijne in this role. She is a trained educational specialist and has management experience in vocational education. In addition, she has a track record of working for the police. Moreover, she has an enthusiastic, warm and open personality, which makes her more than welcome to join the executive board and management team of the Police Academy.’
