Organisation Kathelijne van Kammen bade farewell to the Police Academy Written on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 Today Kathelijne van Kammen, Director of Education and Deputy Director of the Netherlands Police Academy, bade farewell. She was responsible for police education for more than nine years. The official farewell festivities started with a discussion about the question: ‘Is AI an opportunity or a threat to professional development within the police?’. A perfect topic for a Director of Education who has always been committed to innovation and development. Various speakers discussed AI in both police practice and police education. In addition, there was interaction with the audience and some entertaining demonstrations of what AI has to offer. The discussion started with an introduction by senior lecturer Ana Barros. It ended with a contribution by Kathelijne van Kammen herself. After the discussion, guests moved to the Atrium, where they could say goodbye to Kathelijne and snacks and drinks were served. Kathelijne was addressed by several people, including Monique Vogelzang, the Director-General for Police and Safety Regions of the Ministry of Justice and Security, and Leonard Kok, the Police Academy’s Director. In her own speech, Kathelijne told the audience: ‘The work I did here was a labour of love. We offer high-quality education. This is something I’m proud of and that the police can be proud of as well.’ She ended with a powerful message: ‘My last words are for the Police Academy lecturers and all those who supervise our students on the job: have confidence in your expertise and experience, and keep up the good work. Thank you for letting me work for you for a while.’
